If nothing else, India is a world leader in scams. No other
country in the world, or even all universes; if life form exists elsewhere; can
have so many scams with such regularity. An approximate estimate is one shocking scam
figuring jaw-dropping numbers every three months. And after a furore for a week
or a month, it is business as usual for everyone in the country.
Remember the black money in the Swiss banks hungama? Four or five years back? Yeah.
That money is still salted away. People don’t remember it. As per Subramanium
Swamy, if that money comes back, no one will have to pay income tax for the next 15 years! Can you even imagine how
much money is stolen?
Strangely, Indians seem to be happy enough to scammed by
their politicians and not demand any justice or even take the scamsters out of
power. Where did all the Telgi money go? No one even recalls Telgi anymore.
All the money from all the scams belongs to Indian people.
It should be deposited with the public exchequer. It should be used for
infrastructure, safety and betterment of the standard of living. But it remains
gone. And Indians remain burdened by taxes, danger and hunger.
How do politicians grow so rich? Why is their world so
different from the world of the aam
aadmi? How come they are not accountable or answerable for anything at all?
Why is no one shamed by their scams? Why have people resigned to the fact that
corruption is going to dog every step of their lives?
